We'd love to share the story behind our company, why we created Infant Fit, and why we believe every newborn deserves clothing thoughtfully designed for their very first weeks of life. When a baby is born, one of the most delicate areas requiring special attention is the umbilical cord stump. During the first days after birth, the cord naturally dries, shrivels, and eventually falls away. Healthcare providers generally recommend keeping the area clean, dry, and exposed to air whenever possible to support this natural process. The challenge is that traditional newborn clothing wasn't designed with this in mind. Most onesies cover ababy's abdomen completely, while many diapers sit directly over or against the umbilical cord. As a result, parents often find themselves folding diapers down, adjusting clothing, or searching for ways to prevent unnecessary rubbing or covering of the cord.
That led us to ask one simple question: Why isn't newborn clothing actually designed for newborns? That question became the inspiration behind Infant Fit. Our company was created by parents and inspired by the experience of welcoming five children at home. Through those experiences, we learned something important: newborns have needs that are different from older babies. Yet most newborn clothing is simply a smaller version of infant clothing instead of being intentionally designed for what babies need during those precious first weeks. Many new parents are also surprised to learn that, because the umbilical cord is often recommended to remain exposed to the air, it's often more beneficial to keep a baby's environment comfortably warm than to cover the abdomen with additional clothing or blankets. That's where Infant Fit makes a difference. Our signature organic bamboo jumpsuit was intentionally designed with long sleeves and full-length legs to help keep your baby warm and comfortable while leaving the umbilical cord area uncovered. Rather than placing layers of fabric over the cord stump, our specially designed abdominal opening allows the area to remain exposed to the air while the rest of your baby's body stays cozy. In other words, parents no longer have to choose between helping keep their baby warm and allowing the umbilical cord the exposure it needs during those first weeks. We wanted clothing that works with a newborn's natural development instead of getting in the way. But we didn't stop there. 1 We also created the Infant Fit diaper with a unique design that fastens comfortably below the umbilical cord instead of covering it. Together, our jumpsuit and diaper create a complete newborn clothing system thoughtfully designed to help minimize rubbing and irritation around one of the most delicate areas of a newborn's body. Of course, every family should follow the guidance of their pediatrician or healthcare provider regarding umbilical cord care and maintaining a safe, comfortable temperature for their baby. Infant Fit is not a medical device or a medical treatment. It is thoughtfully designed newborn clothing inspired by the unique needs of babies during their first days of life.
We also chose organic bamboo fabric because it's exceptionally soft, breathable, naturally moisture-wicking, and gentle on sensitive newborn skin. Every seam, every opening, and every design decision was made with one purpose: to provide exceptional comfort while supporting parents during one of life's most meaningful moments. As parents ourselves, we understand that bringing a newborn home is exciting, joyful, and sometimes overwhelming. There are already so many things to think about.
